CPAM
Primary Health Insurance Fund: a local branch of the French national health insurance system that manages the entitlements of people insured under the general scheme and is responsible, in particular, for reimbursing healthcare costs.
The local health insurance fund
The Primary Health Insurance Fund manages the entitlements of people insured under the general scheme. It is responsible in particular for reimbursing healthcare costs and covering certain health-related benefits.
Common administrative procedures
Insured people may need to submit supporting documents, report a change in circumstances or check their reimbursements. The Vitale card facilitates the exchange of information needed to cover healthcare costs, but does not mean that all care is reimbursed in full.
Different roles to distinguish
The CPAM does not pay family benefits, which fall notably within the remit of the CAF. Nor does it replace emergency services: the SAMU coordinates emergency medical responses. The CSG helps fund social protection, while the CPAM manages entitlements and benefits.
