The officer asks about French history, culture and institutions, about the rights and duties of citizens and about the applicant’s own path. They also assess the applicant’s commitment to the principles of the Republic, such as secularism and equality between women and men.

At the end of the interview, the applicant signs the Charter of the Rights and Duties of the French Citizen.
