Collective agreement
An agreement negotiated between organizations representing employees and employers that sets out the rules governing work within its scope. An industry-wide collective agreement adapts employment, pay and working conditions, in particular, to the specific characteristics of a professional sector.
Negotiated rules for work
A collective agreement is negotiated between employee and employer representatives. An industry-wide agreement adapts employment rules to the specific features of a professional sector.
What can it cover?
It can cover job classifications, minimum pay, leave or conditions for terminating employment contracts. Its application depends on its occupational and geographical scope and the applicable legal rules.
Key point: it is distinct from an individual employment contract and does not replace the Labour Code. The relationship between legislation, collective agreements and employment contracts is governed by specific rules.
