CE2

Second year of elementary education: a primary school class that comes after CE1 and before CM1. It is the final class of cycle 2, the fundamental learning cycle.

The final year of Cycle 2

The second year of the elementary course comes after CE1 and before CM1. It is still part of the foundational learning cycle, along with CP and CE1.

Strengthening the foundations

Pupils develop their reading comprehension, written expression, calculation and problem-solving skills. Other subjects help broaden their knowledge and develop study methods. Learning from this cycle is consolidated before pupils move on to the next cycle.

CE2 and CM1: an educational boundary

CE2 is not the final year of elementary school. It is the final year of Cycle 2. CM1 then begins Cycle 3, which continues through CM2 and then sixth grade in lower secondary school. Year groups and cycles therefore do not refer to the same thing.
