CP
Preparatory year: the first year of elementary school, following the final year of nursery school and preceding CE1. It is part of Cycle 2, the fundamental learning cycle.
The first year of primary school
The preparatory year follows the final year of preschool and comes before CE1. It marks entry into primary school, not the beginning of schooling as a whole.
Foundational learning
In CP, pupils develop reading, writing and basic mathematical skills in particular. Language activities, exploration of the world and learning to live together support this learning. Progress is made gradually, with support tailored to pupils’ needs.
Its place in the learning cycles
CP belongs to cycle 2, along with CE1 and CE2. This cycle is called the foundational learning cycle. It is important to distinguish between a school year, which corresponds to one year of a pupil’s education, and a cycle, which organises learning over several years.
