National elections

To vote in presidential and legislative elections, you must, among other requirements, be a French citizen, be of legal age, enjoy your civic rights and be registered on an electoral roll.

European Union citizens

Citizens of another European Union Member State who live in France can vote in municipal and European elections, subject to the applicable conditions and after registering on the relevant electoral rolls. They cannot vote in French presidential and legislative elections.

Not to be confused

The right to vote is not the same as eligibility to stand for election, which is the ability to run in an election. Voting is personal and secret.
