Récépissé (receipt)
A temporary document issued as part of certain residence permit applications, authorising residence during its period of validity. The right to work depends on the circumstances and the information stated on the document.
A temporary residence document
The residence permit application receipt is a temporary document issued as part of certain procedures at the prefecture. It serves as proof of lawful residence during its period of validity, subject to the conditions applicable to the application.
Do not confuse the documents
For procedures carried out on ANEF, digital certificates may be issued. The certificate of extended processing is a separate document from the application receipt: it must not be presented as simply a downloaded application receipt.
The certificate of submission for an online application does not, on its own, constitute a temporary document authorising residence. It is therefore essential to identify precisely which document you have received.
Work and period of validity
The right to work is not automatic: it depends in particular on the application and the information stated on the document. Check the validity dates and applicable conditions before working or travelling.
If the document expires while the application is still being processed, consult the authorities’ instructions on requesting its renewal or the appropriate document. Do not assume that its validity is automatically extended.
Where can you check your rights?
Consult the official information on Service-Public.fr, your ANEF account and the instructions from the relevant prefecture.
