Equality between women and men

A constitutional principle guaranteeing women and men equal rights in all areas. It entails, in particular, combating sex-based discrimination and ensuring equal pay for equal work or work of equal value.

A principle applicable to all areas

Equality between women and men applies to political, professional, family and social life. The preamble to the Constitution of 1946 guarantees women rights equal to those of men.

At work

Women and men must receive equal pay for the same work or work of equal value. Pregnancy alone cannot justify dismissal.

In everyday life

Personal or religious beliefs do not allow anyone to disregard the rules governing equality. Protection against discrimination and violence helps put this principle into practice.
