DALF
Advanced Diploma in French Language: an official diploma issued by the French Ministry of National Education that certifies advanced proficiency in French at levels C1 or C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Certifying advanced proficiency
The Diploma in Advanced French Language Studies is an official diploma corresponding to levels C1 and C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. It differs from the DELF, which covers levels A1 to B2.
What the exams assess
The DALF assesses the ability to understand complex documents, structure an argument and express oneself precisely. The format varies depending on the level, but draws on comprehension and production skills in French.
The diploma and administrative procedures
The DALF certifies a level of language proficiency: it does not, on its own, grant a residence permit or French citizenship. Its use as supporting evidence depends on the rules of the procedure concerned. The TCF IRN is a separate test, and the OIF is an organisation for cooperation, not the authority that awards this diploma.
