ART

Assisted reproductive technology: a range of medical techniques that make it possible to conceive a child. In France, it is available, subject to legal conditions, to couples consisting of a man and a woman, couples of women and unmarried women.

Medical assistance with conception

Medically assisted reproduction, also known as PMA, encompasses medical techniques intended to enable the conception of a child. These include artificial insemination and in vitro fertilisation.

Who can access it?

In France, it is available, subject to the applicable legal and medical conditions, to couples consisting of a man and a woman, female couples and unmarried women. The process includes information and support from qualified professionals. Access does not mean that a successful outcome is guaranteed.

Assisted reproduction and surrogacy are not synonymous

The authorisation of assisted reproduction does not permit entering into a surrogacy agreement, which is prohibited in France. Abortion serves a different purpose, as it aims to end a pregnancy. These concepts must be distinguished by their purpose and legal framework.
